FORT HOOD — Officials released Wednesday the name of a soldier who died Friday from an apparent gunshot wound in Killeen. The incident is under investigation.

Sgt. Sergei Joseph Hearst, 26, of Sioux Falls, S.D., entered active-duty service in June 2007 as an infantryman. He was assigned to Fox Troop, 2nd Squadron, 3rd Cavalry Regiment, since April 2012.

Hearst deployed to Iraq from October 2009 to June 2010.

Hearst's awards and decorations include two Army Achievement Medals, two Army Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal with campaign star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Combat Infantry Badge and Markmanship Qualification Badge Sharpshooter with Rifle.
