FORT HOOD — Say, “Howdy!”

Fort Hood held the “Hood Howdy” at Club Hood on Friday. The event gave newcomers a chance to see how much is available both on and off post and get a sense of the community as a whole.

Multiple meeting rooms at the club were filled with sponsors of every type. Some offered raffles, most gave away candy, reusable bags, coin purses or toys.

Resources included banks, behavioral health, exercise programs, windshield repair, and dentists. Area colleges promoted their fall programs. Boy Scout troop 222 offered its Scouts a way to meet the public.

Veterans services shared aisles with local school districts. Fort Hood Family Housing offered “Plinko Bonanza.” Santa’s Workshop, which provides gifts to children of military families in financial need during the holidays, provided information about their application process.

A job fair occupied Patton’s Lounge, in combination with the Hood Howdy, giving military spouses and others a chance to interview for available positions.

The Hood Howdy is held twice each year, with the next scheduled for February 2018.
