Fort Hood officials announce death of a soldier

A Fort Hood soldier has died on post, Army officials said in a news release Wednesday.

Pvt. Paige Elizabeth Briles, 21, originally of Kaplan, La., was found unresponsive at an on-post home Dec. 24.

Briles was a wheeled vehicle mechanic who entered active-duty in February 2015. She was assigned to the Warrior Transition Unit at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center since November.

The incident is under investigation by the Army Criminal Investigation Command.

Briles’ awards include the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.
