Fort Hood officials released the name of a soldier who was found unresponsive in his residence Sept. 28. He was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Bill Cook at 5:20 p.m.

Sgt. 1st Class Calon Cornelius Cunningham, 33, whose place of birth is listed as Port of Spain, Republic of Trinidad, entered active-duty service in January 1999 as an information systems operator-analyst. He was assigned to the 166th Aviation Brigade, First Army Division West, since December 2009.

Cunningham’s awards and decorations include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, two Army Commendation Medals, two Army Achievement Medals, four Army Good Conduct Medals, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal with Combat Service Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, two Overseas Service Ribbons, NATO medal and Driver and Mechanic Badge.

Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation.
