FORT HOOD — Friends, family and community members gathered at the Fort Hood Events Center on Friday afternoon to witness the promotion of Col. Douglas McBride Jr., commander of the 13th Sustainment Command, to brigadier general.

In his welcoming remarks, Lt. Gen. Sean B. MacFarland, commander of III Corps and Fort Hood, called the ceremony “a big deal. We only have over 300 general officers ... and we pick up only about 40 brigadier generals each year.”

McBride’s star was ceremonially pinned on by his family, and he was presented with a general officer belt, 9 mm pistol and a brigadier general flag.

In his speech, McBride thanked God, his family, friends and the Army community who helped shape him into the man he is today.
