A young soldier has died of a terminal illness, Fort Hood officials announced Thursday.

Pfc. John Paul Funderburk Jr., 24, died on Feb. 6 in Irving, Texas, his home of record.

Funderburk entered active duty service in January 2016. He worked as a utilities equipment repairer.

During his service, Funderburk received the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Army Service Ribbon.

In November 2017, he was assigned to the Warrior Transition Brigade, Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center.

Additional information was not released by the Army.
