FORT HOOD — A soldier with the 85th Civil Affairs Brigade received a Purple Heart medal this morning.

Sgt. Brian Ewell was wounded June 6, 2011, when indirect fire struck his base in Afghanistan while he was sleeping. Ewell suffered a concussion and spent eight months at Fort Hood's Traumatic Brain Injury Clinic.

He said the support of his wife and two children, as well as his faith in God, aided his recovery process.

"It's been the foundation," he said. "Everything I do I do for my family."

Read more about Ewell's medal in tomorrow's Killeen Daily Herald.
