Spc. Gage Matthew-Gilbert Schellin

FORT HOOD — Officials Tuesday released the name of a soldier who died Sunday from injuries suffered in an apparent gunshot wound at his Killeen residence. Circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.

Spc. Gage Matthew-Gilbert Schellin, 22, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., entered active-duty service in May 2012 as a field artillery fire-finder radar operator. He was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 3rd Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, since August.

Schellin deployed to Afghanistan from July 2013 to March.

His awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with campaign star, Army Good Conduct Medal, NATO Medal and Army Service Ribbon.
