Lt. Col. Kris R. Poppe – Standby Counsel

Lt. Col Kris R. Poppe is the chief government-appointed attorney for Hasan. Poppe, 50, is a 1993 graduate of the Ohio Northern University – Pettit College of Law. He is licensed to practice in Ohio and has 29 years of military service in the U.S. Marines, Ohio National Guard and the Army. He previously worked in private practice in Wapakoneta, Ohio with his father.

Poppe defended the highest ranking soldier to be charged for abuses at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq, Lt. Col. Steven Lee Jordan, the former head of the interrogation center at the prison. Jordan was found innocent of all abuse charges and was sentenced to only a reprimand for the sole conviction of disobeying an order.
