Retired Chief Warrant Officer-2 Michael Cahill

Cahill was a civilian physician’s assistant who retired from the National Guard and worked at the Fort Hood Soldier Readiness Processing Center.

He lived in Cameron. He was the only civilian killed on Nov.. 5 and witnesses reported he attempted to stop the shooter with a chair. Cahill loved his job so much, his family said, that he left just a week to recover from heart surgery. He had recently returned to work when he died.

Cahill’s family said he loved classic films, reading, history and politics. Cahill and his wife, Joleen, were married 37 years. They have two daughters, Keely and Kerry; a son, James; a son-in-law, Lee; and a grandson, Brody. He was 62 at the time of his death.
