Krueger, a high school athlete from Kiel, Wisc., joined the Army after the Sept. 11 terror attacks. When her mother told her she couldn’t take on Osama bin Laden by herself, Amy replied: “Watch me.”
Krueger was assigned to the 467th Medical Detachment, which is based in Madison, Wisc. The detachment’s remaining 43 soldiers departed Fort Hood, where they were mobilized, for Afghanistan exactly one month after Nov. 5.
