Greene was a Tennesse native who wanted to join the Army for a long time. He did so in 2008 with the support of his family.

Greene was from the tiny northeast Tennessee town of Mountain City. He was a combat engineer assigned to the 510th Engineer Company, 20th Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade.

His company commander said he was a quiet family man who recently reunited with his wife and two daughters. Greene was intelligent and enthusiastic, and challenged his platoon leader to catch up in a book series they were both reading.

Fellow soldier, Spc. Ian Nottingham, said he was a battle buddy and protector who sacrificed for his family. Green, Nemelka and Pearson were friends and at the Fort Hood Soldier Readiness Processing Center together Nov. 5. Greene was 29 at the time of his death.
