A local resident will be joining the Military Officers Association of America next month for its “storm the hill” event.

Retired Lt. Col. Pat Christ of Harker Heights will travel to Washington, D.C., for the event as part of his commitment as the state level president of the association. Council and chapter presidents from all 50 states, accompanied by members of the national board of directors and headquarters staff, plus members of MOAA’s active duty, Guard, Reserve, spouse and auxiliary advisory committees will storm Capitol Hill on April 9 to visit nearly all 535 representatives and senators in support of key legislative priorities.

Ten people from across Texas will attend, Christ said.

“The primary push ... is to deal with Tricare and Tricare for Life and talk about the cost. (The Defense Department) says it’s too expensive to do,” he said. “We’ve showed them in the past where it isn’t costing that much.”

The “stormers” will meet with their legislators to discuss issues and provide information explaining why certain key military personnel issues affect the stability of the all-volunteer force and well-being of military families. Specific issues include:

  • Sustain military pay and benefits.
  • Reject disproportional Tricare fee increases.
  • Eliminate sequestration cuts.
  • Address remaining inequities for disabled retirees, survivors and recalled guard and reserve personnel.
