FORT HOOD — Officials from Fort Hood verified that the loud “booms” area residents are hearing are coming from training conducted on the post ranges.

While officials could not immediately verify which unit or type of weapon system was causing the noise, III Corps media spokesman Tyler Broadway said training was an ongoing occurrence on the post in preparation for various upcoming deployments.

Wind shifts can amplify the noises made during training and make them noticeable in town, he said.
