A fourth star was confirmed Wednesday for Lt. Gen. Mark A. Milley, III Corps and Fort Hood commander, according to the Senate Armed Services Committee website.

The committee received the nomination on July 7, and a voice vote was taken Wednesday.

Milley joined Fort Hood in December 2012 and earned his third star at the same time. A graduate of Princeton University, he was commissioned in 1980 and has served in seven divisions and Special Forces during his career.

He led III Corps on a deployment to Afghanistan, and was thrust into the national spotlight during the April 2 shooting on post.
