Operation Homefront treated 50 military moms-to-be to a lunchtime baby shower Wednesday filled with games, freebies and information.

The Star Spangled Baby Shower at the Courtyard by Marriott in Killeen was for active-duty soldiers and spouses in their second or third trimester of pregnancy or who had a baby within the past month. Each woman received $300 worth of baby necessities provided through donations and business partnerships with Operation Homefront, a San Antonio-based national nonprofit providing support and morale-boosting activities to soldiers ranked staff sergeant and below, wounded warriors and their families.

Wednesday’s installment of the semiannual event included more than fun and games. Representatives from local and on-post resources, such as pregnancy and post-natal fitness and Army Community Service also were on hand with information.

“It’s a little of everything,” said Tracy Curran, community liaison for Operation Homefront’s Texas field office.

Natalia Perez, a military spouse, said she appreciated what Operation Homefront was doing for families.

“This is a nice thing to do to get other mothers together and have that little memory of a baby shower,” she said.

The nonprofit will continue giving back this week with a Kindle giveaway for 150 soldiers transitioning out of the Army. On Saturday, Operation Homefront will be at Walmart in Killeen, Copperas Cove and Harker Heights from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with Killeen Independent School District collecting school supplies for military children and homeless students in the district.
