FORT HOOD — Fort Hood officials on Wednesday released the name of a soldier who died Monday from an apparent gunshot wound near the Sportsmen’s Center on post.

Spc. Bernardino Guevara Jr., 21, whose home of record is listed as Roxbury, Mass., entered active-duty military service in September 2014 as a Patriot Launching Station Enhanced Operator.

Guevara was assigned to Fort Hood with the 4th Battalion, 5th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 69th Air Defense Artillery Brigade since March 2016.

Guevara’s awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and the Overseas Service Ribbon.

Guevara was found unresponsive at the Sportsmen’s Center on Monday and later died, according to a III Corps and Fort Hood media spokesman. No photo was available at the time of press and the incident is currently under investigation.
