FORT HOOD — The command team of the 3rd Assault Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment, “Spearhead,” presented its soldiers with the prestigious Lt. Gen. Ellis D. Parker Award during an in-house ceremony Thursday afternoon.

The Parker award recognizes one standout combat support aviation battalion each year for its excellence in leadership, training, maintenance, safety and innovation.

This year, the 3rd Assault Battalion was chosen for the honor as a direct result of its outstanding performance during last year’s nine-month rotation in support of aviation operations for U.S. Army Europe and European Command.

During the rotation, 400 soldiers from the aviation battalion performed training operations alongside nationals from 13 European countries.

Col. Cain Baker, 1st Air Cavalry Brigade commander, addressed his soldiers: “Because of your hard work and this team, the Army recognizes you as the best assault battalion in formation. You put 1st Cav on the map in Europe, and you should be very proud.”

Abbey Sinclair is a Fort Hood military spouse.
