FORT HOOD — This fall, company-sized elements from 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, will arrive in Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Poland to begin training exercises with those nations’ troops in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve, officials announced Thursday.

Soldiers will replace the paratroopers of the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, of Vicenza, Italy, who have been participating since April, according to a news release. The operation is a multinational training exercise with U.S. allies.

“These land training exercises, which came at the request of the host nations, help foster interoperability through small unit and leader training and demonstrate commitment to collective defense capabilities,” the release stated.

Elements of the brigade conducted training missions throughout the year in Europe.

Officials did not say Thursday how long the soldiers will be in Europe.
