Veterans Day is Saturday, Nov. 11, and the Herald will be covering the events associated with the holiday that recognizes all veterans. Look for the Herald’s annual Veterans Day special section “Salute to Service” inside the Fort Hood Herald and Killeen Daily Herald on Wednesday.

Here is a list of events associated with Veterans Day this year in the Killeen area:

Killeen

The Carlson Law Firm will host its annual Lunch Is On Us Food Truck Rally on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 100 E. Central Texas Expressway in Killeen in honor of Veterans Day. All veterans and soldiers are invited to enjoy a free lunch.There will be three food trucks, giveaways, gift bags and a radio station. Boy Scouts will pay their respects to fallen soldiers buried at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 State Highway 195, Killeen, at 8 a.m. Saturday. To commemorate Veterans Day, each Boy Scout will place an American flag on a grave. A flag retirement ceremony will follow about 9:30 a.m.

The Area Veterans Advisory Committee will conduct the Killeen Veterans Day Parade on Saturday at 11 a.m. The parade route starts and ends at North College Street. Fort Hood

Army Corps of Engineers Recreation Areas is waiving all day use fees at more than 2,400 recreational areas nationwide. This waiver is available to all veterans, active and reserve members and their families. Only verbal confirmation of service is needed to waive fees. Harker Heights

Copperas Cove

The annual Veterans Day Parade is on Saturday at 10 a.m.. The theme this year is All Veterans, All Wars. Line-up will take place in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8577 parking lot with overflow and larger floats staging at the Fairview/Miss Jewell Elementary School parking lot. Pinto beans, cornbread and desserts will be provided at the post home following the parade. Call the post with any questions or concerns at 254-547-1516.

Lampasas

The Lampasas County Museum will host Col. Robert A. Wright IV at 2 p.m. Saturday. Wright will speak on the topic of service: What private citizens can do to thank servicemen and women for their sacrifices. Light refreshments will be served at the museum, 303 S. Western Ave., Lampasas. Wright is the senior regular Army adviser to the Texas Army National Guard. Before this position, Wright served as the chief of colonels requirements for the Army chief of staff and the deputy chief of staff for operations at NATO Rapid Deployable Corps-Turkey, where he performed NATO political directives with 13 nations. Didn't see Lil' Tex restaurant in cove on here. They are offering a free coffee and cinnamon bun to all veterans today for free. Just had mine, it was delicious :)
