DARREL RILEY Oh where to begin? After San Angelo Central High School, I attended Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas. In 1967, I began my first career choice with Lone Star Gas Company. I achieved almost 28 years with Lone Star Gas. Carolyn and I later relocated to seven different areas. During this period, I had various supervisory and management positions after completing my management courses with Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas. I started my second career choice with the Killeen Daily Herald in January 1994. I’ve had several different positions with the Herald and established numerous long lasting relationships with the people here in Central Texas. I’ve always made an effort to support the cities in which we lived. I have been fortunate to serve with numerous organizations including Metroplex Foundation Board (Chairman), Armed Services YMCA (Chairman), Leadership Killeen (Chairman), Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce (Vice President/Director/Ambassador), Local Heroes, Inc. (Vice President), Greater Killeen Free Clinic (Director), Killeen Rotary Club (Director/President Elect), Ft. Hood Area United Way (Director), Industrial Foundation (Director) as well as Heart O’ Texas Lions Club-Waco (President). I suppose two of my proudest accomplishments are receiving the Sam Walton Business Leader Award (June 1997) and the Texas Newspapers Advertising Managers Association (TNAMA) “Account Executive of the Year” (May 1998).
