The Fort Campbell, Ky., soldier who planned to detonate a bomb at a Killeen restaurant is appealing his conviction.
Pfc. Naser Jason Abdo, 22, filed a notice of appeal last week in federal court. The court appointed Waco attorney Stan Schwieger to represent Abdo.
A judge sentenced Abdo to two back-to-back life sentences on Aug. 10 on multiple charges stemming from the plot to build and detonate homemade explosives at a Chinese restaurant in Killeen last summer.
Abdo represented himself at the sentencing hearing and expressed regret for not being able to carry out his attack.
When arrested, Abdo confessed to the plot. He told authorities he wanted to kill Fort Hood soldiers.
