WACO -- Pfc. Naser Abdo yelled the name of accused Fort Hood shooter Maj. Nidal Hasan while being led out of a federal courtroom in Waco Friday morning.

Abdo is accused of plotting a terror strike against Fort Hood soldiers. Authorities arrested him Wednesday at a hotel in Killeen and found bomb-making materials and weapons in his room.

After being arraigned on a charge of possession of an unregistered destructive device, Abdo shouted two names as U.S. Marshals and court security led him from the courtroom.

"Abeer Qassim al-Janabi Iraq 2006, Nidal Hasan Fort Hood 2009," Abdo said, referencing a 14-year-old girl raped and murdered by U.S. soldiers in Mahmoudiya, Iraq, in 2006 and the accused Fort Hood shooter.

The outburst was preceded by the arraignment. At the outset, Abdo refused to stand when U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Jeff Manske entered the courtroom.

U.S. Marshals and court bailiffs had to physically lift Abdo to his feet. He remained standing for the rest of the hearing.

As Abdo stood handcuffed and shackled in a white jumpsuit, Manske read the charge and appointed Waco attorney D. Keith Dorsett to his defense. Dorsett was not present in the courtroom and was not immediately reachable for comment.

An arrest affidavit obtained by the Herald shows that while authorities found several components to make a bomb and an instructional book, prosecutors charged him with possession of a Springfield .40-caliber handgun and explosives that are not registered federally.
