An arrest affidavit made public Tuesday shined new light on a rape charge facing Nolanville Mayor Charlie Lee Stewart.
Nolanville police arrested the 53-year-old elected official Friday afternoon and charged him with aggravated sexual assault of a child.
He has remained in Bell County Jail since then with bail set at $500,000.
The charge against Stewart stemmed from allegations of repeated sexual assaults of a 12-year-old girl that started in the summer of 2011.
The accusation came to light after the girl told her mother that Stewart had forced himself upon her several times beginning in the summer prior to her sixth-grade school year.
The mother provided a written statement to Nolanville police, and her daughter was later interviewed at the Children's Advocacy Center of Central Texas.
She told the investigator Stewart touched her genitals with his hand and had sexual intercourse with her several times over the course of months.
Court hearings have yet to be set for Stewart. Justice of the Peace Theodore R. Duffield arraigned Stewart on Monday.
Stewart was suspended from his job as a computer technologist at Manor Middle School in Killeen.
