COPPERAS COVE - Three years ago, Copperas Cove High School senior Mostafa Al Tameemi did not speak English.

Now proficient, Al Tameemi, an Iraqi native, works to bring good to the community by volunteering his time.

Nominated for the Absolutely Incredible Kid award by CCHS UIL academics and activities coordinator Amal Baty, Al Tameemi earned more than 50 hours in community service in his sophomore year alone by volunteering at the high school. He also participated in the "Keep Children Safe" program sponsored by the Copperas Cove Downtown Association and the National Night Out.

"We can always count on Mostafa to have a wonderful smile and to greet all staff and students with a warm shake of hand," Baty wrote.

For Al Tameemi, community service is a way of life.

"Community service is very important to me," he said, adding that a simple "thank you" is enough to make hard work worthwhile.

Al Tameemi said he is encouraged to bring positivity into the world after seeing negativity.

For that reason, Al Tameemi said he will "always help."

His desire to help people will guide him through college as he enrolls at the University of Texas at San Antonio to pursue a pre-med degree, which will later serve him when he enters medical school.

"Since I was very little, I always thought the doctor was the hero of the people," he said. His decision to become a doctor was influenced by his spirit of volunteerism.

"We are so happy, and we appreciate (the award)," Tameemi's father, Mohammad Al Tameemi said. "He likes to do a great job and we encourage him to do that, and now he got what he wants."

Tameemi will be honored as an Incredible Kid by the Camp Fire USA Tejas Council at a celebration from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Bell County Expo Center.

Reservations for the celebration may be made by calling the local Camp Fire USA office at (254) 773-6614. Cost is $25 per person.
