The Clearwater Underground Water Conservation District of Bell County and our office will hold the annual water symposium Thursday in Belton.

The free event will be at the Central Texas Council of Governments Building at 2180 N. Main St. from 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The goal of this event is to inform the public about water issues in Texas as they pertain to our water quality and quantity needs for citizens who utilize our underground water resource.

The topics of the day will focus on a multitude of issues that will impact us all. The Status of Water Supply in Central Texas and Future Water Plans will be discussed by Trey Buzbee of Brazos River Authority. Justin Mechell of the Texas AgriLife Extension of College Station will present Wellhead Protection and Well Maintenance. In the afternoon, there will be a discussion of the Watershed Protection Plans for the Leon and Lampasas Rivers and Nolan Creek Study Results by Jay Bragg of Brazos River Authority, Lisa Prcin of Blackland Research Center and Kristina Ramirez of the city of Killeen.

Additional speakers will bring the audience up to date on the status of the water supply in Bell County and the aquifers' storage capacities and levels and the road to recovery.

Agricultural producers are encouraged to attend and those with private applicator licenses with the Texas Department of Agriculture will receive three hours of continuing education units.

To RSVP, call the Clearwater Underground Water Conservation District's office at (254) 933-0120. Registration will help the coordinators prepare for meals and breaks.
