Killeen area chefs will be showing off their finest recipes at this year’s Flavors of Central Texas food festival, a community event that features plates from 26 area eateries.
The Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce expects between 500 and 700 to attend the event Tuesday, said Jenna Weynand, director of strategic communications at GKCC.
“It’s really a lot of fun,” Weynand said. “This year there will be more food to try than ever before.”
Entrance to the family-friendly event costs $20 for adults and $10 for children. Children under 5 years old enter free.
Aside from alcoholic beverages, there is no cost for food inside the festival.
“Once the guests get inside, we do not want them to spend any money,” Weynand said.
Weynand said in planning for the event GKCC wanted to make sure guests have more to do than just eat.
“We wanted to kind of break it up so it wasn’t just the sitting around and eating,” Weynand said.
The evening features a cooking presentation from Meredith Viguers, owner of local restaurant “Let Us Do the Cooking,” a Top Chef competition and People’s Choice award competition.
New to this year’s lineup is a contest called the Fullest Fan, where organizers give $100 to the guest that visits the most booths during the three-hour event.
“There are 26 booths, so it’s going to take a very dedicated, hungry person to visit all of them,” Weynand said.
