The 19th annual Central Texas Baylor Scholarship Brunch is from 9:30 a.m. to noon Feb. 16 at the Wildflower Country Club in Temple.

A silent auction will be held and all funds go to the Central Texas Endowed Scholarship at Baylor University.

Four students from the local area are awarded needs-based scholarships and recognized at the brunch.

This year’s Distinguished Baylor Woman of Central Texas is Carol Smalley Mills, Baylor Class of 1976, daughter of Verna and Raby Smalley of Gatesville.

Mills, a 1972 graduate of Gatesville High School, majored in secondary education with minors in business administration and English at Baylor and served on the Baylor University Development Council.

She is vice president of First Advisors Inc. in Austin and is an investment partner in Killeen Holdings Partnership. In 2010, she served as director of Killeen ISD Education Foundation. From 2006 to 2008, she was executive director of the Belton Economic Development Corporation. She previously was executive director of the Copperas Cove Economic Development Corporation and director of marketing for the CCEDC and director of business development, staffing the Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce committees and implemented policies promoting the economic vitality of Killeen.

She is married to Billy Mills. They have two sons and two grandchildren.

Each year, the Baylor Woman at Heart Award is given to a woman in the area who loves Baylor and shows tremendous support of Baylor, but did not attend the university. This year’s recipient is Lynn Ringstaff Neal.

Brunch is $35 per person, with $20 of each ticket going to the Endowed Scholarship. The deadline for reservations is 5 p.m. Feb. 13. Payment may be made at the door.
