Baylor Scott & White Clinic-Killeen West employees spent this week putting the finishing touches on the clinic, which opens Monday.
The new 14,771-square-foot facility, at 4501 Clear Creek Road, will replace the existing Killeen West clinic on Wales Drive, which closes today.
Chris Burfict, clinic manager, said safety and location were among the reasons the clinic decided to move to a new location.
“It’s always better to have a stand-alone clinic than to be housed in a strip mall or in a location with other facilities like food and things like that,” he said. “Just for the sake of safety, we wanted our own facility, right down to the simple things like temperature control.”
The clinic — one of four in Killeen — will offer primary care and family medicine, including care for infants and children and women’s health.
It features 24 exam rooms, two treatment rooms for minor procedures, an on-site X-ray and laboratory services.
Michael O. Kirkpatrick, the clinic’s medical director, said the new clinic will have three physicians, as well as nurses and physician assistants.
Kirkpatrick said building the facility from the ground-up allowed the clinic to tailor its blueprint to allow for a more team-oriented atmosphere between physicians, assistants and providers.
“This is the first (clinic) that is extraordinarily team-oriented,” he said. “By expanding our break room, it’ll allow us when we have our meetings, to have all of our team members there.”
Last year, Baylor Scott & White started construction on its first clinic in Copperas Cove. The upcoming 14,973-square-foot clinic, at 239 W. U.S. Highway 190, is expected to be completed in June.
