The Bell County Sheriff’s Department announced Thursday that it received a $30,000 Traffic Safety Grant from the Texas Department of Transportation.

The grant will provide funding to allow deputies to work overtime on highway safety programs in Bell County, said Sheriff Eddy Lange.

Those deputies  place a special emphasis on intoxicated drivers and other serious traffic violations during Spring Break and holiday weekends, with the goal of reducing the number of traffic crashes.

Deputies also will target lake and rural roads in the county that are known to have a high number of traffic crashes caused by serious traffic violations or impaired drivers.
