A 37-year-old man who drowned over the weekend at Stillhouse Hollow Lake has been identified as Richie Renfro of Belton.

The accident occurred while Renfro was attempting to repair a pontoon boat.

Renfro fell into the lake Saturday afternoon after the boat's engine quit working while on the lake. According to officials, he bent over the side of the boat and fell into the water. He never resurfaced.

Police received a call of a possible drowning about 5 p.m. Saturday, but a diving team did not find his body until Sunday. He was found in water between 16 and 18 feet deep.

Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke pronounced Renfro dead about 1:15 p.m. Sunday on the shore of the lake.

Cooke ordered an autopsy. The preliminary report showed Renfro's cause of death as accidental drowning.

Renfro was on the lake with family and friends when he fell in the water.
