The Jokers and Stroker's Salute the Troops is set for Sunday in Killeen.

Texas Proud Custom Cycles and Stroker's Dallas are sponsoring an event to show appreciation to the troops at Joker's Icehouse Bar and Grill, 704 E. Veterans Memorial Blvd. in Killeen.

The day, which starts at 11 a.m., will include motorcycle and hot rod displays, music, a hog roast and beer specials for service members.

Local veteran and author of "To D-Day and Back," Bob L. Bearden, will be available to sign copies of his book.

Part of the proceeds from the event will go toward Fort Hood's Fisher House, said Drew Lewis of Texas Proud Custom Cycles.

The Fisher House is a home-like place where service members and their families can stay during a medical crisis, according to information from Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center.

"The house has a warm, compassionate environment where families and caring friends can nurture one another in times of need," read information from Darnall's website. "It offers families a clean, safe, low-cost respite from the stress of worrying about loved ones."

Fisher Houses benefit all branches of the military. Fort Hood's opened in May 1998 and is one of 29 in the nation, according to information from Darnall.

Public donations are used to provide essentials for operating the house, said Isaac Howard, Fort Hood Fisher House manager. Those items include linens, laundry services, repairs, renovations, normal household supplies and, in some cases, food.

Aside from a chance to show appreciation to local service members, Sunday's event also serves as a pre-party to the Republic of Texas Biker Rally, which is June 10-13 in Austin. The rally is the largest in Texas, according to information from Stroker's.

Other sponsors for the Jokers and Stroker's Salute to the Troops include Horny Toad Harley-Davidson, Kay's Motorcycle Mania, Matt's Motorcycle Performance and The Loop Hole.
