FORT HOOD - Children at the Chaffee Child Development Center celebrated the Army's 236th birthday Thursday with a cooking demonstration.

A class of 3- to 5-year-olds gathered to practice the math and science behind cupcake baking in honor of the event.

"Because the Army's birthday is super special," said 5-year-old Janae Beverly.

It was one of many events planned throughout the week, which included wearing crazy hats, patriotic outfits and singing birthday songs for the Army.

"It really shows the history and honor associated with their parents serving and the honor that goes along with it," said Sadie Collins, assistant director of the center.

The Army's official birthday was Tuesday, but events have continued throughout the week on post.
