GATESVILLE — Coryell County Sheriff Johnny Burks said he will seek help from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms to investigate the explosion at a farm Sunday evening that left one man dead and two others injured.

Charl Wynard Swart, 55, of McGregor, was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Beverly Jones. The blast occurred about 6 p.m. Sunday in a farm shop at Huffman Farms on Farm-to-Market 2671 (Mother Neff Parkway) in eastern Coryell County. Kevin Huffman of Huffman Farms reported the explosion in a 911 call at 6:11 p.m. and firefighters, ambulances and deputies responded.

A 24-year-old McGregor man injured in the explosion was flown to Parkland Hospital in Dallas for treatment of serious burns; his condition was serious but stable Monday. A third man, 50, also from McGregor, was taken to Hillcrest Hospital in Waco, Burks said. His condition was unknown Monday.

Burks said the men were apparently working with a torch when a storage tank exploded. He said he will ask ATF investigators to help determine the type of material that caused the explosion.
