A 20-month-old boy is dead after an apparent drowning accident Saturday in Killeen.
Officers responded to a house in the 800 block of East Jasper Road about 2:30 p.m. after receiving a report of a drowning, a Killeen police spokeswoman said. When police arrived they found a person performing life-saving measures on the child. Emergency personnel transported the child to Metroplex Hospital while continuing to perform CPR, but they were unable to revive him.
Police did not release the boy’s name.
Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin pronounced the child dead at 3:26 p.m. Potvin ordered an autopsy at the Southwest Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas, he said.
The child’s grandmother was the first to notice the child floating in a swimming pool in the backyard of the home. The child had been left alone in a room while apparently asleep, police spokeswoman Ofelia Miramontez said.
A man jumped into the pool and got the child while emergency authorities were notified. It was unclear how long the child had been in the pool.
The incident remains under investigation.
