LAMPASAS — Take some of the chill out of the cold winter air and warm up with the first 5k Frosty Fun Run on Saturday benefiting the Boys & Girls Club of Lampasas.

“We were looking for new, creative ideas to do something in the community, and this will be our first attempt at the Frosty Fun Run,” branch director Michael Blount said.

The Lampasas club has about 425 members between the ages of 8 and 18, Blount said.

All funds raised at the run will benefit the after-school program.

“The Fun Run will start and stop at the Boys & Girls Club. After the event, we will award a first-, second- and third-place medal in each of the 13 age categories,” Blount said.

On race day, registration begins at 8 a.m. at 107 N. Main St.

The 5k starts at 9 a.m. and the kids’ race begins at 9:30 a.m.

The registration fee is $15 per person in advance and $20 per person on the day of the race.

All ages are invited to participate.

The first 200 people to register will receive a T-shirt and goodie bag, and a special prize will be awarded for the best Frosty the Snowman costume.

Fireworks fundraiser

The club is hosting another fundraiser — a fireworks stand on U.S. Highway 190 across from Murphy’s USA near Walmart — until Tuesday.

Club board member Chris Strickland is spearheading that event.

“We’re trying out all sorts of new things, as without the additional financial support, we wouldn’t be able to meet our budget,” Strickland said. “It’s not just a fun thing for the community and board members, it’s imperative we do this since we average more than 100 kids at the club per day.”
