BELTON — One person is dead and another was hurt following a head-on crash on southbound Interstate 35 near Amity Road, a news release said.

Belton spokesman Paul Romer said the injured driver was taken to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-Temple. The other driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, he said.

The name of the dead person, who was the one going the wrong way, was not immediately released.

The crash occurred around 9:36 p.m. Monday. One of the motorists was driving north on southbound I-35, Romer said. The collision involved a 2014 red Hyundai Sonata and a 2007 white Ford F-150.

“The southbound lanes of I-35 were shut down for several hours after the crash, but the scene was cleared and the lanes reopened several hours before the morning commute began,” Romer said, adding that the Belton Police Crash Team is investigating the crash.
