With three players recording rounds in the 70s, Gatesville's girls golf team shot a second-round 308 to finish third at the Region I-3A tournament at Lubbock and advance to state for a third consecutive season.

Katy Colson and Lauren Davis posted identical rounds of 75, and Kristen Smithhart shot a 77 on Tuesday to help the Hornets to a two-day total of 632.

All five Gatesville players improved their scores following a 324 team total Monday.  Colson shaved three strokes off her opening-round score to finish with a team-low 153, while Smithhart improved by two strokes to post a 156.  Davis rebounded from a first-round 81 to match Smithhart's total, and teammate Chelsy Tobin (86-81—167) rounded out the Hornets' scorecard.

Andrews shot a 612 (317-295) to win the regional tournament and advance to the state tournament along with second-place Snyder (311-319—630), which edged out Gatesville by two strokes.

The Class 3A state tournament will be held May 2-3 at Austin's Jimmy Clay Golf Course.
