TEMPLE — A Monday morning fire displaced two people from a barn that had been converted into a home in the 4300 block of Mulberry Drive near Stillhouse Hollow Dam.

The two adults were at home but managed to escape the blaze, which started about 10 a.m.

Three puppies died in the flames, Bell County Fire Marshal Steve Casey said.

Another house was smoking, but the wind direction changed, allowing firefighters to save the home from major damage, Casey said.

The American Red Cross was contacted to provide temporary housing for the two people.

Casey said the fire is suspicious in nature and is under investigation.
