After an 8:44 a.m. Sunday call reported that hunters found a dead body, Bell County Sheriff’s deputies went to a field south of the intersection of Chaparral and East Trimmier roads in south Killeen.

A news release stated that arriving deputies found a badly decomposed body, which police believed to be female.

“Clothing articles suggest it could be a female,” said sheriff’s department Public Information Officer Donnie Adams.

Judge Bill Cooke pronounced death at 9:13 a.m. Sunday, and ordered an autopsy at the Southwest Institute of Forensics in Dallas, the release stated.

Police do not know the person’s identity, the cause of death, or how long the body was in the field, and currently are not seeking anyone in connection with the incident.

Sheriff’s investigators attempt to identify the person, and will scour missing persons reports, Adams said.

“They’re still beating the bushes and seeing what they can turn up,” Adams said. “When we get the autopsy back, it’ll tell us who died, and we’ll see if we can match up. Right now, we don’t have any matches.”
