GATESVILLE — After traces of rain in recent weeks, the Coryell County Commissioners Court on Monday voted to lift the ban on outdoor burning in unincorporated areas for a week.

The burn ban will be lifted until March 30 despite the recommendation of Fire Marshal Billy Vaden to leave the ban in effect due to unpredictable wind gusts.

County Judge John Firth said lifting the ban was needed “to mitigate future wildfires by burning off dead vegetation during this low-threat window following the rains.”
