A candidate running for a seat on the Copperas Cove School District Board of Trustees confirmed Thursday that he was dropping out of the race.

Jeff Gorres, a 46-year-old Cove parent, said he had already informed the district that he was no longer running against incumbent Doug Cook in the Nov. 5 election.

Gorres, an active-duty service member, said he was leaving the race because Defense Department guidelines prohibit military personnel from running for local office.
