Carry the load aims to take back Memorial Day

Posted

Carry the Load-Austin will host a free event to celebrate Memorial Day.

Last year, more than 1,500 people participated in the event at Reveille Peak Ranch in Burnet.

The May 25 event features a 20.14-mile walk, in which people will “carry the load” in honor of a fallen hero. Teams or individual participants must preregister at carrytheload.org. This is not a race and participants can choose to walk the entire length or portions.

A military demonstration at 9 a.m. will showcase the capabilities of the Texas military, law enforcement and firefighters, including parachuting, helicopter water entry and advanced firefighting system demonstrations.

This family-friendly event also includes children’s activities such as fishing and nature education.

Funds raised will support local nonprofits serving veterans and their families: The Comfort Crew for Military Kids, Folds of Honor Foundation, Serve Who Serve, Wish For Our Heroes and F7.

Gates open at 7 a.m. Reveille Peak Ranch is at 105 County Road 114 in Burnet.
