A new trial in a murder case of a former Fort Hood soldier was denied Monday, according to the Bell County district attorney’s office.

Defense attorneys for Michael Fitzgerald Reese, 30, requested the motion for a new trial, which was denied by 27th Judicial District Judge John Gauntt during a hearing in Belton.

Reese, a former Fort Hood soldier, was sentenced in September to life in prison after he confessed on the stand to shooting a fellow soldier in the back during an altercation outside a Denny’s restaurant in Killeen in 2011.
