Flights in and out of the Killeen-Fort Hood Regional Airport were delayed several hours Wednesday afternoon when a military aircraft became disabled on the runway.
Fort Hood spokesman Christopher Haug said a C-5 Galaxy was performing “touch and goes” at Robert Gray Army Airfield out of Kelly Air Force Base when the air crew reported a shudder in the front nose gear upon landing.
“The crew immediately shut the aircraft engines down and stopped in place,” he said. “All incoming and outgoing air traffic was delayed as a result, from both the civilian side, Killeen airport and the military side, RGAAF.”
Haug said maintenance crews assessed the situation and moved the aircraft to a maintenance area on the military side of the airfield.
City spokeswoman Hilary Shine said about a dozen flights were affected. A couple of those flights were diverted to Temple’s Draughon-Miller Central Texas Regional Airport.
