Items are needed for the annual Community-Wide Thanksgiving Basket Benefit in Copperas Cove. The event is from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Copperas Cove Civic Center, 1206 W. Avenue B.

The Refuge Corporation, 811-A Martin Luther King Drive, is accepting items from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday The office is closed for lunch from noon to 1 p.m. The organization also is collecting items from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesdays.

The baskets will be given to families or individuals screened and referred by churches or local nonprofit agencies. The event expects to feed more than 500 families.

Items needed for the baskets include uncooked medium turkeys, boxed macaroni and cheese, rice, canned milk, stuffing, packets of gravy mix, instant potatoes, canned vegetables, boxed bread rolls, cranberry sauce and canned yams.
