During the Labor Day holiday DWI enforcement, the Texas Department of Public Safety made 1,700 arrests for allegedly driving drunk, a news release stated.

The state agency made 1,682 DWI arrests during the 18-day period of increased enforcement. DPS Highway patrol credited 218 of those arrested to the holiday patrols.

Troopers also made 977 felony arrests, 1,223 fugitive arrests and wrote 24,440 speeding citations during the increased enforcement, the release stated.
