COPPERAS COVE — Early voting for the runoff election between Azeita Taylor and Kirby Lack continues until 7 p.m. Thursday at the community room in the Copperas Cove Police Department.

Voting began Aug. 18. As of Friday, 156 ballots were cast. The polls are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Wednesday and will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday. Election Day is set for Sept. 2 with the polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Place 5 became vacant in March when Kenn Smith resigned his post. A special election was set for July 22; Lack received 266 votes with Taylor garnering 230 and George Duncan getting 154 votes. No one received the required 50 percent of the vote to be declared the winner, resulting in a runoff between Lack and Taylor.
