Fishing for Freedom tournament back on


BELTON — Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area will host the eighth annual Fishing for Freedom bass tournament Saturday.

Today, the Killeen Civic and Conference Center doors will open at 3 p.m., when pre-registered boaters and nonboaters can register until 6:30 p.m. The convention center also will hold a raffle and a silent auction for fishing trips and other prizes.

Boating and fishing seminars are scheduled from 5 to 6 p.m. Dinner for participants will be served at 6:30 p.m., and family members can eat for $8.

Cliff Brown and Rick Smith will emcee an evening program at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, the gates at BLORA will open at 5 a.m. Participants will put their boats in the water at any available ramp before 6:30 a.m. and make their way to tournament headquarters at BLORA.

Participants will weigh their fish in 15-minute intervals starting at 1 p.m. At 3:30 p.m., awards will be given.
