Killeen residents may have noticed a smoke trail rising over Fort Hood on Monday evening, but the fire was “planned and controlled,” according to Fort Hood officials.

“We do burns like this routinely across the range to prevent wildfires,” media relations branch chief Chris Haug said.

Fort Hood regulary conducts brush burns to help prevent fires on the post.
